Urkupiña

Urkupiña was the phrase in the Quechua language used by a shepherd girl at the end of the 18th century to signal the presence of the Virgin on top of the Quta hill in Bolivia.

Since then, during the second week of August, the Virgin of Urkupiña is venerated. In Ushuaia, the Bolivian community celebrates the apparition as if in a postcard from a time long past, the displacement of the Bolivian ritual to Ushuaia, the southernmost region of Argentina.
